Carlos
Alcaraz (No. 2) gears up for an enticing showdown against
Jannik Sinner (No. 3)
in the semifinals of
Indian Wells. The Spaniard defeated Alexander Zverev 6-3,
6-1, showcasing his best tennis and will challenge the Italian, who boasts a
16-0 record in 2024.
The rivalry
between Alcaraz and Sinner has already established itself as one of the
matchups that garners the most attention from fans as the new faces of tennis.
So far, they have faced each other 7 times with 4 victories for the Italian and
3 for Carlitos.
The Spanish
player's last victory was precisely in the 2023 Indian Wells semifinals with a
score of 7-6, 6-3. They then played two more matches in 2023, with Sinner
emerging victorious in the Miami Open (6-7, 6-4, 6-2) and the China Open (7-6,
6-1), curiously also in the semifinals.
Ahead of
the imminent reunion between the world No. 2 and world No. 3, Alcaraz had words
of praise for Sinner: "He’s the best tennis player in the world right now,
without a doubt,” said Alcaraz. “He's playing unbelievable, no losses this
year. I really enjoy watching him play. So it's going to be a really difficult
match. It's going to be a big challenge for me.”
This will
be the first match they have as both Grand Slam champions, where they will not
only play for a spot in the final but also the winner will claim the world No.
2 ranking once Indian Wells is over, regardless of other results.
