The
Indian Wells 2024 quarterfinal match between
Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev has been plagued by bewilderment and later terror. When the match was just taking its first steps, an invasion of a massive swarm of bees has caused chaos and subsequently the suspension of the duel.
When Alcaraz was about to serve at 1-1 in the first set, the Spanish tennis player was seen shaking his racquet as he was surrounded by a huge number of bees that had suddenly appeared in the stadium. In the blink of an eye, everything was full of bees. After leaving the stadium, the first question on the fans' lips was whether Carlos Alcaraz had been stung by any of them. His manager, speaking to COPE, confirmed that he had been stung on his forehead.
"We were just with him in the locker room. He got stung by a bee on his forehead, luckily only one. Out of the 2,000 that were there, that got there in a minute. But he's fine, he's fine. He's in the locker room waiting for the bee track to be cleared," explained Alcaraz's manager.
"We from the stands were on Zverev's side and there was nothing there. What we saw was a cloud that looked like mosquitoes. Then when we realized he was totally surrounded. The moment he noticed that he was being bitten was when he started to react and he got up and left," he added.
"When they realized how many bees were in the 'spider' (the camera on the track), they pulled it up. But there were still bees in the area below. But it was something peculiar because they were only inside the stadium," he concluded.
