America’s young tennis star
Coco Gauff has once again highlighted
the positive role her father had in her professional life.
The 20-year-old is often regarded as one of the most
highly-rated players currently playing in the women’s singles category. She
lived up to the hype last year when she won her maiden and till now only
Grand Slam title after beating the current world number two Belarus’ Aryna
Sabalenka with a score of 2–6, 6–3, 6–2.
Gauff was quoted in a report where she once again highlighted
the positive impact her father had on her professional career.
"I was taught from a very young age of the privilege
that I have, and the way that my dad [Corey] grew up was definitely not, you
know, not the best childhood,” she said. “So he always instilled that into me
and always instilled how to uplift other people.
"Because it took, you know, one person to help uplift
him and that made a difference in his life which by-product made a difference
in my life and maybe I can continue that cycle with some other kid."
Gauff is currently taking part in the
Indian Wells where she
has already booked her place in the quarterfinal after defeating Belgium’s Elise
Mertens in the round of 16 with a score of 6-0, 6-2.
