In their second match of the year,
Holger Rune handed
Stefanos Tsitsipas his second defeat as he bested him in the
Stockholm Open final 6-4 6-4.
This was not an explosive match as many anticipated as Tsitsipas simply did not bring his best. He was okay but okay doesn't win you a trophy if you have a very good player on the opposite side. Rune was excellent, from start to finish there was very little to complain about the way he approached this match.
It was by far the best Rune played all week long and it came at the right time. He served better than Tsitsipas and that was really key because it gave him plenty of short balls that became winners on shot later. Tsitsipas played better in the second set but overall it was rather lacklustre.
The serve wasn't there when he needed it. His forehand misfired more often than not and he simply did not show up for the final. It was his 7th final of the year and he's 2-5 in finals this year and 9-15 overall. Rune improved to 2-1 in Finals after winning Munich earlier this year.
