Although Tommy Paul is set to face off against Andy Murray in the doubles event at the 2024 Olympic Games, the American disclosed his wish of seeing the British star maintain a presence on the ATP Tour after his retirement, in the footsteps of Swiss legend Roger Federer.
The Paris Olympics will be Murray's final professional tennis tournament, as the former World No.1 announced he would be hanging up his racket after the quadrennial event. Murray, alongside compatriot Dan Evans, are through to the men's doubles quarterfinals. The British duo will face the American pairing of Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz, in what could once again be Murray's final match as a tennis professional.

Paul would like to see Murray make appearances on tour post-retirement

The World No.13 admitted he would like to be the one to retire Murray at the Olympics. However, outside of their competitive rivalry, Paul had nothing but praise for the three-time Grand Slam champion. Furthermore, the American shared his desire to see Murray show up at different ATP events after his retirement, in a similar fashion to Federer. The 20-time Grand Slam has made sporadic appearances at ATP and Grand Slam events ever since he hung up his racket in 2022.
"It’s been an awesome run, hopefully it comes to an end for them but it’s been fun to watch, definitely," said Paul of Murray and Evans Olympic performance. "Well hopefully we retire him. He’s one of the best dudes in the locker room and a great guy overall and obviously an unbelievable player and has had an unbelievable career.
"Win or lose it’s going to be sad for me not seeing him on tour anymore. Hopefully the British summer we’ll see a bunch of him, hopefully he’ll travel around like Roger. Roger is still everywhere."
