With the
Australian Open coming to a close, fines have been confirmed for players with
Hubert Hurkacz among those most punished with a $7,600 bill for using audible profanity during his Quarter-Final match against Daniil Medvedev in Melbourne.
Hurkacz could not contain his frustration during the match and threw his racquet across the net as well as uttering several swear words. This resulted in a penalty at the time for violating the code of conduct, but also resulted in a fine after the fact. It is a small blow though with Hurkacz reaching the Quarter-Finals and a second of his career in losing to the World No.3 who won 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
The moment came in the fourth set as he lost his temper and threw his racquet over the net with several swear words. They fined him $7,600 according to Sportowefakty. Daria Saville was another player who was fined the same amount for visible obscenity. Other losers in terms of fines included Tommy Paul who lost out on $6,000 for smashing his racquet, Holger Rune was fined $7,600 and Daniil Medvedev for unsportsmanlike conduct received the largest fine of all sitting at $9,000 as per Yahoo Sports.
A price to pay for tennis frustration and despite most of these players not having a huge chunk of their bill taken out by this fine, it is a blow to take amid the heat of the moment especially in the case of Hurkacz.
