France’s tennis star
Ugo Humbert has interesting numbers in
his relatively young career, something that is not common in the sport.
It is often claimed that facing the very best is the most
difficult part in any spot but that is not the case when it comes to the
25-year-old.
Humbert has the highest win percentage while facing the top-five
players in his career which is 60 percent.
After that, his second-best winning percentage is against
the players in the top-10 which is roughly around 50 percent.
Interestingly, from there on, his winning percentage went
down significantly against the top 20, top 50 and top 100 players where he won
47.3, 42.7 and 43.6 percent of his matches.
The Metz-born is currently taking part in the China Open
where he has qualified for the quarterfinal of the event after beating Russia’s
Andrey Rublev in the round of 16 with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 7-6. He is now set
to face off against Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the last-eight of the tournament.
Despite his impressive numbers against the top-10 players, Humbert
has a pretty average record while playing in the Grand Slams. Till now, he has
never played in the quarterfinal of any mega-event.
His best outing in any of the mega-events came in 2019 when
he played in the fourth round of the French Open and lost to Serbia’s Novak
Djokovic with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.
