Stan Wawrinka is part of a group of players who don't seem to relent despite injury woes over the years, plenty of surgeries and not being in the form they were at the peak of their powers.
But Wawrinka gave a refreshing take before he played in this week's Argentina Open Buenos Aires that nothing lasts forever and that he is grateful as a result with the chance to continue his career. The Swiss ace continued that he enjoys the passion of sport still and even the toil of having to keep his body in condition to play the sport is still a thrill. He added that he doesn't want to regret anything when he does end up hanging up his racquet.
“The passion of sport, without a doubt. I am passionate about what I am doing. It is a great opportunity in life when you find your passion and can turn it into your job. The excitement I feel for tennis, the opportunity to travel the world, the fact of returning to Argentina and Buenos Aires, the chance to play in front of many fans from all over the world... I enjoy every little detail of tennis life… even the most difficult… practicing a lot, being disciplined and sacrificing things," said Wawrinka before Buenos Aires.
"I know that it is part of the process and I enjoy this life and I am also aware that it is not forever, that is why I want to enjoy it as much as possible. When I was a teenager I never believed I would have been able to achieve what I achieved. I never thought I would still be playing at 38 or 39 years old. I was always living the impulse and tried to push myself every day to be a better tennis player. And I want to continue improving and see how far I can go. All I want is to not regret anything the day I stop playing. That is why I continue.”
