Rafael Nadal lost both his matches at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships but it was still a positive outing for the Spaniard after coming back from injury and surgery.
The Spaniard has returned to the courts in Abu Dhabi and played some solid tennis overall giving himself a chance to win both the match against Murray and Shapovalov. He was closer to victory in his 2nd match, against Shapovalov, but ultimately both of his opponents found a way to win. After the 2nd match, Nadal spoke to the media revealing what his goals are in the future.
He said:
“I still believe that I will be competitive enough to give myself chances to compete for the things that I have been competing for the last 15 years, if not, personally, it doesn’t make sense. I am not playing at all for money or just for fun, I am playing to keep achieving goals or at least to enjoy the process to try to achieve my goals. If then you don’t achieve, it’s fine, but the motivation and the passion is still there.”
Nadal also threw a curveball to the reporters saying that he was unsure about the Australian Open. When pressed to reveal more Nadal declined simply saying he will talk things over with his team before deciding on what is best in the future.
