Daniil Medvedev will get a chance to avenge his defeat at Wimbledon where he lost to Hubert Hurkacu and the Russian is ready.
The last time Daniil Medvedev faced
Hubert Hurkacz it was the Polish player who won the match after coming back from 1-2 to win 3-2. Medvedev initially got the better of Hurkacz but after the Polish player adjusted his game the Russian had no answers. They will face off later tonight at the National Bank Open in Toronto.
In order to play against Hurkazc, Medvedev had to defeat Duckworth and on that vicotry he said:
“He was playing good, especially in the beginning. I managed to get a few tight games, managed to get ahead. I think he lost his rhythm a little bit so that was well my fault also. I managed to be ahead throughout the rest of the match and then – it’s very normal, it’s the same for everybody when your back’s against the wall – I served for the match, he played much better than before."
Turning his attention to Hurkacz Medvedev was asked what went wrong in their Wimbledon matchup. His response:
“When you face someone for the first time it’s a bit tougher and we’d never practised together so I didn’t know what to expect. Sometimes you just need to find things during the match. Even when you play someone for the 10th time every day is different so it’s always about finding the right spot during the match.”
They will face each other later today (01:00 CET) and the winner will move to the National Bank Open in Toronto semifial.
