Daniil Medvedev opened up his
ATP Finals campaign with an emphatic 6-4, 6-2 win over Andrey Rublev on Monday evening. Speaking afterwards, he was quizzed about a quote that Rublev made pre match.
Rublev said that Medvedev kills you slowly before being asked is that how you do it. Medvedev though was honest and said he doesn't have the game style that others may have against Rublev so if he didn't play aggressive, he would get crushed.
He said to conclude that it's the only chance that he has of succeeding. Next up as he looks to reach the knockout stage is Alexander Zverev who defeated Carlos Alcaraz earlier today.
“I like to play aggressive on my serve or the first shot after the return. But Rublev plays such a style that he doesn’t give me any other option because I don’t have the power of Alcaraz or Tsitsipas on my forehand.
"So it’s a bit of a different style where I try to go left & right & use my opponent. He’s very good at this game. What happens is we are both good at this game. As you could see in the first set, we have to run run run run run. That’s not the case against everyone. But against him, that’s the only chance I have.”'
