By the will of the draw, world no. 1 Novak Djokovic will kick off his 2021 Monte Carlo campaign against the rising young Italian Jannik Sinner on Wednesday.
It will be their first meeting, and it should be interesting to see how far Jannik can push Novak, as he can produce incredible tennis when his shots are on. Speaking about the match, Jannik said that he doesn't know Novak that well, practicing with him when he was a lot younger but not recently.
In the first round, Sinner took down Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 23 minutes, losing serve once and delivering three breaks to control the pace after an early setback and set a blockbuster Novak Djokovic clash.
"It's a tough match from my side because I don't know Novak that well. I saw many of his matches on TV, but it's different when you are on the court against that opponent. I'm looking forward to that one; it's a good test to see where my game stands at the moment and what areas I have to improve. I know where I can develop, but this kind of match can give me a lot. I will try to go there with the right mentality like in every other encounter, and we will see what will happen," Jannik Sinner said.
