Stefanos Tsitsipas made a winning start at the
Monte-Carlo Masters taking down Aslan Karatsev in R2 and after the match, he spoke to the media.
It was a good start for Stefanos Tsitsipas who took down Aslan Karatsev in straight sets 6-3 6-4 to move to R3. The opponent was not tough but Tsitsipas was able to stay aggressive dictating play with his forehand. After the match he said:
“I knew I had to face a difficult opponent today. Aslan has [had some] great results this year… I managed to push him back and attack with my forehand. Things worked out pretty well for me."
They really did and after reaching the Roland Garros semifinal last year Tsitsipas is establishing himself as a strong clay-court player. It is something he notices himself as he got better each year on clay:
"My clay court experience helps a lot to come back each year stronger, knowing that I have done better before. It was a very beautiful game out there and I enjoyed it.”
Tsitsipas is working hard on his game trying to become a more consistent player. His motivation is simply to close to the achievements of the greatest tennis players of all time which he calls legends of the sport:
“I’m putting [in] hours on the court, trying to become consistent [and] get close to the legends of our sport. I am working every single day. I am very far from that, but it is definitely a dream of mine that I want to achieve one day.”
So far it's going well for Tsitsipas who reached the quarterfinals or better in all events he played this year.
