John Isner and
Reilly Opelka played a historic tiebreak where Opelka triumphed 24-22 breaking the previous record of 20-18.
It was the 2nd set of their semifinal match at the
Dallas Open and after winning the first tiebreak, Opelka also won the 2nd. The 2nd one was the longest tiebreak ever played as the final score was 24-22 which is more than the previous record of 20-18 which happened 7 times in total. Opelka called it 'bizarre' explaining that he totally last track of the number of points.
Isner expressed dissapointment about the loss saying:
"The crowd was definitely behind me. It’s kind of extra disappointing to not be able to get over the line in my backyard. That match was two guys serving big. [Opelka] is serving just massive. I don’t think anyone can break him out there."
Opelka did not lose a set so far at the event winning all three matches in straight sets. Even more impressive is the fact that he was not broken once and that's because he did not face a single break point in six sets played.
