Russia’s tennis star Andrey Rublev
has revealed that he is looking for positives after losing in the final of the
Shanghai Masters.
The 25-year-old came second-best
in the ATP 1000 event against Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz with a score of 3-6, 6-3,
7-6.
Talking after the match, Rublev
expressed disappointment but also stated that he is more keen on focusing on
the positives.
“There are positive things I can
take, mainly the level at which I’ve been playing throughout the tournament and
that I have added a new Masters 1000 final,” he said. “These things do not
always happen. It’s clear that there are positive things.
“They push me to continue working
exactly as the same way. I feel that in recent months I’ve been doing all the
right things, that I am playing well, and that it is a matter of time before I
can show this level in tournaments. Shanghai is the first tournament in which
I’ve achieved this, so I hope to continue improving &continue showing this
level for the rest of the year."
The defeat would have been a severe
blow for the Moscow-born as it would have been his second ATP 1000 Masters
event.
However, his long run in the
tournament is definitely a positive as he is now favourite to cement his spot
in the upcoming ATP Finals.
