Alexander Bublik left quite an impression on the spectators in Monte-Carlo when he publicly during the on-court interview said: 'I hate clay, I hate this surface. That's the statement'.
The player from Kazakhstan has never been one to sugarcoat things and he openly talks about many things in tennis. He has previously called tennis a job and not something he particularly enjoys doing and today he went a bit further publicly saying he hates clay to the spectators. those familiar with tennis know he shares the same disdain Medvedev has for the surface but actions like these are so rare in tennis that it always makes news.
He said:
“The only thing I can say is I wish Stan a good recovery. If he was in shape I wouldn’t be standing here. I wish the clay will end and we go onto grass! There was no match from my side, I hate clay, that is a statement - I hate this surface!"
He repeated the same thing after the match in the post match interview saying:
"I did not turn this match around. It was just because he was not very healthy in the end of the second set and in the third. That’s why I won, the only reason."
