Following the Australian Open quarter-final loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas from two sets to love lead,
Rafael Nadal decided to skip Rotterdam and Acapulco and treat the troubled back.
In his recent interview, Nadal spoke about his glorious Roland Garros triumph last October under challenging conditions and the entire situation with the coronavirus that has affected the world of tennis and the whole planet. Asked about
Novak Djokovic and
Roger Federer, Nadal suggested they are the opponents only on the court during matches, respecting both rivals and saying their relationship is great.
"The previous season was tough because of the pandemic, and I didn't think that everything would be as good as it was. I won the 13th Roland Garros title in different conditions, making the crown more impressive than the others. People like to speculate, which is why they make these comparisons. When my career is over, we will have enough time to remember my achievements and understand the place I occupy in tennis history.
We don't need to get into the discussion about who is the best. I have a great relationship with Roger and Novak; we are opponents only during our matches. We are experiencing a second wave of the coronavirus in Europe, and we have played tennis behind closed doors, with no crowd, which is very sad. But at least we are lucky to play.
There are people out there with regular jobs who are suffering from being exposed to risk. The priority is to take control of the health situation, and I hope we can all get out of this scenario as soon as possible," Rafael Nadal said.
