Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic has confirmed that he will play ‘slightly more this year compared to the previous season. The 37-year-old is regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic started the 2025 season early as he is currently taking part in the Brisbane International in a bid to be prepared for the Australian Open. The former world number one, interestingly, took part in both the singles and doubles categories.
Last year, Djokovic announced that his focus moving forward would have been to play in the Grand Slams and Olympics. Back then, he went on to state that he was not even actively looking to qualify for the ATP Finals, which he did eventually, largely because of the poor performances of other players.
However, he missed the event because of fitness concerns. Djokovic was recently quoted in a report by English media outlet Daily Express, where he confirmed that he will play more this season than last year. However, he also confirmed that despite looking forward to playing more events this year, he will assess his own condition after the Australian Open.
“We'll see. It's just the beginning of the season,” he said. “I mean, I have the next kind of five, six months' calendar in my head, you know, possible scenario. But, you know, still have to review post-Australia. I'm actually committed to play Doha, and then I have to see, you know, Indian Wells, Miami, and I wish to play both, but we have to see how I feel and talk with the team. And just manage the schedule right, because I want to peak at the biggest tournaments. Slams, obviously, but also Masters events, the Masters events that I'd like to play my best tennis. It seems to me that I'm going to play slightly more tournaments this season, but I have to see how it goes. It's just the beginning.”
