Carlos
Alcaraz hopes that
Daniil Medvedev will get nervous playing the
Wimbledon
semifinal on Centre Court.
The world
No. 1 and world No. 3 will face each other for the third time in their careers.
The first time was in the second round of the 2021 Wimbledon, with Medvedev
winning convincingly 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. The second meeting was in the final of
Indian Wells this year, where Alcaraz claimed the title.
On Friday,
they will play the first semifinal of the men's draw, and it will be Medvedev's
first match on Centre Court this year, as he has mainly played on Court 1.
Medvedev reached the semifinals after a tough victory over American Cristopher
Eubanks in 5 sets.
On the
other hand, Alcaraz played arguably his best match at SW19 this year, defeating
Holger Rune in straight sets. The world No. 1 spoke with Mats Wilander after
the triumph and shared his thoughts on the match:
"I
didn't expect to win 3-0 [against Rune]," Alcaraz said.
"He's
a really tough opponent, I'm sure we're going to have a lot of great moments."
"We're
going to play a lot of matches as well. I knew that for him it was not easy to
play a quarter-final against me in the Centre Court. It was his first time on
Centre Court so I expect that but hopefully had a great game,” the Spaniard
added.
"The
aura that you live on Centre Court is different than the other ones."
Alcaraz has
played on Centre Court since the second round in his victories over Muller,
Jarry, Berrettini, and Rune, so he comes with plenty of experience on the main
grass court:
"I can
only talk with my limited experience, but for me the first time playing on
Centre Court was really tough to deal with the nerves about playing in this
beautiful court.”
"I
hope Daniil will feel the same.”
"But
every player is different and I don't know how he's going to feel about playing
Centre Court."
