Stefanos Tsitsipas has been on a tear over the last two weeks, and the Greek star kept his foot on the gas with an impressive win over Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals of the Barcelona Open.
Having just triumphed at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week, the second seed booked his spot in another semifinal on Friday. He defeated the rising Canadian star 6-3 6-3 to extend his unbeaten run on red clay to eight matches, and is one match away from his second consecutive final.
“I think my hard efforts paid off,” said Tsitsipas, who has now won 14 sets in a row. “I wouldn’t say it was the best start, but I managed to win my serve from 0/40 down in the second game. That got me into the match and that helped me to break him at the end. I didn’t panic, but I knew what I was doing. It feels good to be able to play the way I am. I really hope the winning streak continues.”
The World No.5 improves to a 25-5 record on the ATP Tour this season, and next faces 11th seed Jannik Sinner in the semifinals. The Italian upset Andrey Rublev earlier in the day, and is currently tied 1-1 in meetings against the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals champion.
