The 2021 Barcelona Open is back to the schedule after cancellation in 2020 due to the pandemic with Nadal as the top seed and a hefty prize pool.
The 2021 Barcelona Open is one of the fondest events for Rafael Nadal who won it 11 times in his career never losing a final in those 11 tries. In 2021 he will be back to try and win it for the 12th time. He will be joined by a very strong field battling for that 500 ATP points and €1,702,800 prize pool.
The defending champion is Dominic Thiem who won it in 2019 over Daniil Medvedev but the Austrian player will not be back to defend his title. Even so, a very strong field headlined by Rafael Nadal will still attend the event. Besides Nadal, we will see Stefanos Tsitsipas, Diego Schwartzman, Denis Shapovalov, and Bautista Agut. The event will run from April 19th till April 25th serving as a perfect preparation for the French Open.
The winner of the event will bag 500 ATP points along with €178,985 while the losing player in the final will have to make due with 300 ATP points and €111,600. The semifinalists will bag 180 ATP points and €69,840 with the lower stages of the event yielding lesser prizes.
