Iga Swiatek
stated that she feels less pressure when playing on grass during the season.
The current
World No. 1 will only participate in two grass tournaments this year. Next
week, she will be the top seed at the WTA 250
Bad Homburg Open, which is the
only tournament she will play before
Wimbledon.
Polish
player comes off winning the 2023 French Open, defeating Karolina Muchova in
the final with a score of 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-4. This marked her fourth Grand Slam
title and her third at Roland Garros.
Swiatek
will enter Wimbledon in great form and will be considered one of the favorites,
despite not having achieved significant results on grass in the past. In an
interview, she acknowledged feeling less pressure on grass and emphasized her
ability to adapt to different surfaces.
“Basically
before every grass-court season I just want to keep being open minded and just
learn a lot. I feel like there is maybe a little bit less pressure, but on the
other hand when I just go on court, I feel like I know how I can play tennis
and I know how I can play on other surfaces," world No. 1 said.
“On grass
sometimes it’s tougher and I still have to learn a lot, but I just feel like
you’re going to go on court and not play the way you should or the way you
could; so this thing is adding more pressure. But I would say that the pressure
from the outside, yes it’s maybe a little bit less, it depends on you guys and
what questions you ask," Swiatek added.
