Stefanos Tsitsipas created controversy during the US Open after opponents took issue with how long he took during toilet breaks.
The issue received so much criticism from certain players and so much media attention that the ATP announced it would take a look at the rule in order to prevent overly long toilet breaks in the future. It's unclear what the rule will do exactly but most think it will impose a time limit on toilet breaks. That might not sit well with Tsitsipas who explained why he takes so long saying:
"I am a person who likes to take his time. I don't do it to break my opponent's rhythm. I did it even when I won a set 6-0."
The statement is factually true as Tsitsipas did take a toilet break after winning a set 6-0 yet many think the time he spends in the toilet during breaks is too much. Tsitsipas would likely follow any rule imposed on time in toilet breaks so it remains to be seen what type of rule change the ATP implements ahead of the next season.
It will also be interesting to see whether Tsitsipas continues to do it for the rest of the year especially since the ATP announced they would look into it. Exciting times ahead!
