America’s young tennis sensation
Ben Shelton believes that
it is ‘pretty funny’ to see different athletes copying his celebration.
The 20-year-old’s trademark celebration came under focus in
the recently concluded US Open when the current world number one Serbia’s Novak
Djokovic copied it after getting the better of him in the semifinal.
Shelton was recently quoted in a report where he stated that
it is pretty funny to see athletes copying his skills.
"You saw Djokovic do it, you saw Musetti do it, you saw
Fognini do it,” he said. “The guys at Laver Cup were doing it whenever I won a
big point. It's even gone outside the sport I saw, was it Hakimi? Maybe the
footballer.
“I think he did it in one of his games, And I'm getting
tagged on social media all the time, people win a game or win a match and
they're doing this and hanging up the phone. I mean, it's pretty funny for me."
Shelton is often rated as one of the most highly-rated young
players in the circuit and his recent performance in the fourth and final Grand
Slam of the year where he lost the semifinal in straight sets with a score of 6-3,
6-2, 7-6.
He is currently taking
part in the Shanghai Masters where he has already booked his place in the round
of 32 after winning the second-round clash against Spain’s Jaume Munar with a
score of 6-4, 6-4.
