The final of the 2023 China Open is set with Liudmila Samsonova set to face Iga Swiatek on Sunday in Beijing after seeing off Elena Rybakina in a stunning win.
It was a tricky Head to Head for Rybakina pre match with the Kazakh being 4-0 down to the Russian who is well known for being a spoiler and also won earlier in the season against her in Montreal.
Albeit in comparison, Rybakina complained about scheduling problems last time out which weren’t a factor this time.
Playing some of her best tennis of the year, Rybakina was unable to deliver losing out 7-6(7), 6-3. This after she brutally thrashed Aryna Sabalenka yesterday but no follow up.
Now Swiatek awaits Samsonova who has found a new lease of life this week after firm doubts. A care free attitude from the former dominant Pole sees her favourite to return to the winners’ circle this weekend. She saw off Coco Gauff earlier today.
