Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas powered past Andrey Rublev on Wednesday at Roland Garros, securing the second Grand Slam semifinal of his career.
The Greek star required an hour and 55 minutes to avenge his recent Hamburg Open final loss to Rublev, as he acquired an impressive 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 victory.
“I felt comfortable playing on this court and despite getting off to a bad start and being a break down, I remembered what a big fighter I am,” said Tsitsipas after the match.
The World No.6 improves to a 27-9 record for the season, as he battled back from a 3-5 deficit in the first set to pull off the victory.
“It’s also about finding solutions in difficult moments and I managed to put my brain to work,” he added.
Tsitsipas next faces World No.1 Novak Djokovic, who battled past Pablo Carreno Busta 4-6 6-2 6-3 6-4 in the day's last quarterfinal. The 22-year old Greek has a 2-3 record against the Serbian, losing their most recent encounter at the 2020 Dubai final.
