Italy’s young tennis star has shown his respect for three stars who participated in the Shanghai Masters. The 23-year-old is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in the men’s tennis in the singles category.
Sinner recently clinched the Shanghai Masters after beating Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-3. After the match, the reigning world number one showed respect towards the likes of Djokovic, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Switzerland’s Roger Federer. “Three legends and I played against one legend, you know I see legends everywhere,” he said. “I tried to keep up.”
Sinner is having a fabulous year where he has registered some impressive victories. The title in Shanghai is the seventh title for the San Candido-born star this year and the third ATP 1000 event. Before that, he lifted the Miami Open in March after beating Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the final with a score of 6-3, 6-1. He then lifted the Cincinnati Open after beating America’s Frances Tiafoe in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-2.
Other than that, Sinner also lifted two out of the four Grand Slam titles this year. He first lifted the Australian Open after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. He recently lifted the US Open as well after beating America’s Taylor Fritz in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. Sinner had a good time in the other two Grand Slams as well. At the French Open, the reigning world number one lost in the semifinal to Alcaraz in a five-set thriller with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Wimbledon was the only major event where Sinner participated but failed to qualify for the semifinal or beyond. He was knocked out after losing in the quarterfinal to Medvedev in a five-set thriller with a score of 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3.
