Stefanos Tsisipas was there for the retirement of
Roger Federer and he was very touched by what he saw as he grew up idolizing Federer.
You can spot the influence of Federer on Tsitsipas immediately after watching him play. From the one-handed backhand to several other things, Tsitsipas' career has been shaped by Federer. It was important for him to be there when the Swiss were saying goodbye to tennis and it left him deeply affected:
"I spent that whole night crying, this is true. What surprised me the most was the emotion I felt the next morning. You think that downloading at night would be enough, but it was incredible to see me crying that morning while having breakfast".
Talking further about Federer, he added:
"All the beautiful moments that we spent together began to happen to me, that is the most beautiful thing that I take away after sharing with him a moment as special as his retirement. I hope one day I can have a retirement like this."
