Former world number 12
Feliciano Lopez believes that it is
too early to call it a ‘bad’ patch for Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak
Djokovic. The 36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in the
history of men’s tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 24 Grand
Slam titles.
Djokovic is going through a bit of a rough time according to
his high standards as he is yet to play in the final of any event in the 2024
season. The 2016 French Open doubles winner was recently quoted in a report
where he admitted that the 24-time Grand Slam winner is going through a rough
time but disagreed with the notion that the legendary tennis star is going through
a ‘bad patch’.
“I think he’s playing
well,” said Lopez. “He lost in the final in Australia, then he played before
the clay swing in Indian Wells and lost early, but I don’t think it’s enough to
think that Djokovic is going through a bad patch. In Australia, he lost to
Sinner, who played a great game. I think there would have to be more
tournaments in which Djokovic isn’t at his best to think that he’s in a rut. There’s
still a lot of the season left and honestly, if he doesn’t have any fitness
issues, and as I understand it he doesn’t, then I think he’ll be one of the
ones fighting for the big titles, as he has done over the last 15 years.”
