Emma Raducanu's relationship status became a hot topic at the start of Wimbledon, following hints of a connection between the Brit and two-time defending champion
Carlos Alcaraz, who were recently confirmed as a mixed doubles team for the US Open.
Raducanu was spotted at Alcaraz's match at the Queen's Club Championships, during the days she was out of competition recovering from an injury. This sparked rumors that there might be something more than just friendship between the two Grand Slam champions.
However, at the start of Wimbledon, Raducanu herself clarified that they were "just friends" with a laugh during a press conference before her elimination from the tournament. A few days ago, a particular question from a reporter to
Cameron Norrie caused surprise when he was asked if he was dating Raducanu. This question left the World No. 65, who had just defeated Mattia Bellucci in the third round, bewildered.
"Apart from everyone here loving tennis, some of the gossip has been about who Emma Raducanu is dating. Can I ask if you’re dating her? Can we get to the bottom of this please?" a reporter asked. "I’m trying to find out who’s dating Emma Raducanu... It seems to be going around all the men’s singles. I was wondering if you’re dating her, please?"
Norrie denied the question, not taking it too well in an awkward moment. Recently, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist
Nick Kyrgios commented on the British press's insinuations about Raducanu's dating life and her supposedly dating an ATP Tour player. "I don’t know, I think it’s a love triangle. Draper, Alcaraz, Raducanu. They’re fighting over Raducanu I think, I’m not sure," Kyrgios joked during an interview with talkSPORT.
"I think (on) the outside (she looks happy), I don’t know who’s making her happy," the former World No. 13 commented more seriously. "The tennis world loves a love story, they love to try and put two together but Emma is No. 1 British female player at the moment, she’s doing fairly well. Obviously, winning a grand slam at 19 is never easy, it comes with a lot of expectations from the outside world. But, you know, as long as she’s happy," Kyrgios explained.
Raducanu reached the third round of Wimbledon but ultimately fell in a tight match to World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, where she saved 7 set points in the first set and squandered a break advantage in the second. The World No. 45 will be out of competition for a few weeks and will return at the DC Open starting July 21.
