Martina Navratilova was impressed with
Garbine Muguruza in Guadalajara and she thinks the Spaniard could lift a grand slam trophy next year.
Whenever a grand slam rolls around, the WTA draw is something polarizing. While there are the usual suspects when it comes to potential winners the situation is much more fluid than in ATP Tennis. A lot of tennis players are capable of winning it and if everything falls into place it can sometimes produce a spectacular run of forms.
Over the past couple of years, several players were able to win grand slam trophies as dark horses and Martin Navratilova seems to think that Muguruza has a pretty good chance in 2022. Speaking about the Spaniard she said:
“I think Muguruza after how she played in Guadalajara. Not just that
she won, but how she comported herself. Her relationship with Conchita
is really now paying nice dividends. Conchita is a great tennis mind,
and she’ll move her into becoming an even more complete player."
She further said:
“Garbiñe really wants it; she’s in a happy place. Her personal life
is settled, she has a supportive boyfriend and Conchita is amazing.
She’s in a really, really good place and I would be surprised if she
doesn’t win a major next year.”
