Rafael Nadal will play at the 2022 Australian Open as the Spaniard confirmed he safely landed in Melbourne with a pic in the Rod Laver Arena.
Rafael Nadal tested positive for the COVID-19 virus about a week ago upon his return from Abu Dhabi. That threw quite a bit of doubt on his Australian Open participation but even before that unlucky thing happened Nadal hinted about maybe missing the event. After losing two matches in Abu Dhabi he explained in a press conference that he will talk to his team before making any decision.
He refused to confirm that he would either play or miss it simply saying he will talk it over. When he tested positive on top of that many got worried about the prospect of his participation but he dispelled the rumors with a Twitter post. He posted a photo of himself in the Rod Laver Arena smiling with the caption:
"Don’t tell anyone…
… here I am"
