Novak Djokovic made his first
Roland Garros match drama-free as he cruised past American Aleks Kovacevic in three sets despite a few hiccups in the final set.
After the match, Djokovic made his way to the Tennis Channel podium where he spoke about the match and how he was feeling. He was informed that Jim Courier said during the broadcast that his movement looks the same as it looked ten years ago to which Djokovic responded:
"I'll take that as a compliment, thank you Jim. It feels different I must say. The body is not responding quickly in terms of recovery as was the case 10 years ago but I think you have to be a little bit smarter with time management and energy management. Just pick and choose which tournaments we wanna peak."
Djokovic further talked about Roland Garros being a clear goal for him admitting that the clay court season hasn't been as good as he had hoped. Getting in a few more matches would have been ideal for him. Still he's content with the way he's feeling right now:
"I've been feeling good this last week of training and today was a good day at the office."
He further explained that even when he doesn't prepare as well as he hopes it's the experience that he has which proves crucial. He knows how to get himself in the best mindset for a grand slam and that's something he has over the rest of the field.
