Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3 6-2 7-5 to book a spot in the Roland Garros quarterfinal.
Stefanos Tstisipas extended his winning streak on clay with a marvellous performance against Pablo Carreno Busta whom he defeated 6-3 6-2 7-5. The Spaniard has been known as a very consistent performer and reached the French Open quarterfinals twice but he stood no chance against Tsitsipas. After the match Tsitsipas said:
"My performance was good. I was very mentally there in every single game. Whether I was serving or not, I was very concentrated in the procedure, in the process."
It was the best demonstrated in the 3rd set when Tsitsipas trailed for the majority of it. However, keeping his composure the Greek was able to pull the break back, just in time to avoid the 3rd set. He then added another break later to close it out with 7-5.
The greek blasted 41 winners to only 17 errors en route to the match victory. It was his 3rd win over Carreno Busta who is played he respects. On his opponent he said:
"I think every single match that I had against him was a learning experience. I had high expectations for him, and that's a good thing, going into the match having high expectations [for] your opponent."
He also highlighted that having a good start was key for him:
"I think I also had a great start, very good start, where I didn't let him attack a lot. I actually gave him not that much space to get going."
He will play Daniil Medvedev next against whom he has a 1-6 H2H.
