Former Britain’s tennis star Andy Murray has opened up about an interesting experience of playing golf in the Celebrity Pro-Am at the BMW PGA Championship. The 37-year-old is regarded as the greatest British player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category.
Murray has recently retired from professional tennis after struggling with fitness concerns throughout his career. He first retired from the sport in 2018 after the Australian Open but returned to the court miraculously soon after and continued playing at the highest level for a long period of time.
Murray’s last appearance as a professional tennis player was at the Paris Olympics, where he participated in the doubles category alongside Jamie Evans. After retiring from professional tennis, Murray has been involved in playing other sports, such as golf. The former world number one in men’s tennis, who lifted three Grand Slams in his illustrious career, recently participated in Celebrity Pro-Am at the BMW PGA Championship. He was quoted in a report afterwards, in which he explained the nerves he felt while taking part in the event. Murray stated that he was very ‘very nervous’ and, at one stage, he could not feel his arms and legs.
“It was good,” said Murray. “A brilliant experience for me. To be out there with one of the best in the world for me, it was brilliant. I was pretty nervous. I couldn't really feel my arms and legs. I didn't really hit any balls on the range beforehand. Yeah, I was feeling it. But it got better. It got better as the round went on. It's a different sort of nerves from Wimbledon because you are comfortable in the tennis environment. I'm not thinking I'm going to walk out on the tennis court and forget how to hit the ball. You just, you want to perform well. Whereas here, you're sort of nervous about -- there's people standing like five metres away from where I'm driving, and I'm like, I'm useless at this game. Yeah, you just want to try and keep the ball in play and don't mess up too much.”
