The 2024
Korea Open is set to take place at the Seoul Olympic Park Tennis Center in Seoul, South Korea from 16-22 September. Here are the
prize money and points on offer at the WTA 500 event.
The tournament began in 2004, with Maria Sharapova winning its inaugural edition. It was played as a 125 event until 2021 when it was upgraded to a WTA 250 tournament for the following year. It has now been upgraded to a WTA 500. But has encountered issues.
Due to the proximity of the US Open in the updated calendar, it has seen mass withdrawals. Banners were placed around the event lauding who was on offer but Iga Swiatek,
Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro and Elena Rybakina have all withdrawn since then.
Prize money and points on offer at tournament
There is a huge increase of nearly 400% on last year's prize money due to the increase to a WTA 500. The victor this year gets $142,000.
The runner-up seals a share of $67,655. Semi-finalists claim $51,205. While Quarter-Finalists take home $24,910. Last 16 nets $13,590 while $9,820 is for the first round.
All with a maximum net of 500 points for the winner. A good cash incentive and ranking incentive for a decimated field now led by Daria Kasatkina and Emma Raducanu.
