Daniil Medvedev admitted to having difficulties concentrating while trying to identify the celebrities present during his match against Alcaraz at the US Open.
World No. 3 played one of the best matches of his career and eliminated the 2022 US Open champion and world No. 1, Carlos Alcaraz. Medvedev showcased his best shots and didn't allow the Spanish player to continue his quest for a second consecutive title.
The Russian acknowledged after the match that he noticed there were a lot of celebrities in the stands shown on the screens, but he admitted it was challenging to recognize them and stay focused.
"True, there were a lot of celebrities they were showing all the time," Medvedev said.
"I was trying to stay focused but I was like, 'Who is there? Who is the next one?' I think I saw everybody who was there, and some of them, yeah, were pretty big stars. That's cool to see people enjoy tennis," he added.
"That's amazing because that's the sport I love."
"So to see people I see on the TV and some of them I'm a fan and some of them I know just see in the movie or something like this, it's great to see them enjoy such a great match," Medvedev added.
Daniil Medvedev also spoke about his strategy for defeating the Spaniard:
"Talking about Carlos, I'm happy because in Indian Wells and Wimbledon, he used well my return position from the back," Medvedev said.
"But I knew that in my opinion, it was not only this that made me lose to him, and I felt like even returning from back I can cause him trouble and I managed to prove it today."
In the final, he will face Novak Djokovic, whom he already defeated in the final at Flushing Meadows in 2021. They will play this Sunday, September 10th, at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
