Novak Djokovic has said that every Grand Slam final he reaches 'could be the last one,' after defeating Ben Shelton to make the 2023 US Open final.
23-time major champion Djokovic looks to be very much on form this year at Flushing Meadows, having won against all but one of his opponents in straight sets. This includes rising talent Shelton, who he clashed with for the first time in the semi-finals of the New York Slam.
The Serb dominated the match, breaking Shelton's serve five times and hitting a total of 28 winners, as well as winning 23 out of 26 points at the net. These successes saw him through to his 36th major final 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (4).

Djokovic reflects on future in Grand Slams

The 36-year-old has been a big name on the tennis scene for well over a decade and doesn't seem to be showing any signs of slowing down. However, he admitted during the post-match press conference that his future at majors is less certain than it was ten years ago.
"Well, fact is that at 36, every Grand Slam final, yeah, I don't know, could be the last one. So I think that I probably value these occasions and opportunities to win another slam as more than I have maybe 10 years ago," he said.
Djokovic added that he did not know how much longer it would be until he stopped playing all four Grand Slams in the same season.
"Because 10 years ago I felt like, hey, I still have quite a few years ahead of me. I don't know how many I have ahead of me now, or I don't know how many of the years where I play four slams in the whole season do I have in front of me," he added.
For now at least, Djokovic will be facing Daniil Medvedev in the final of the US Open.
