Gael Monfils played a superb Australian Open where he was barely edged out by Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinal of the event.
After the match, Monfils admitted that he has a strong belief that he will be able to win one grand slam before retiring. He also admitted that it's his dream and it's the thing that motivates him to keep him going despite his age. There are those who believe it possible as Yannick Noah, a French tennis legend said:
"If he has no breaks or injuries, Gael Monfils can have a very good year, especially on clay. He will be tough to play at Roland-Garros."
Whether Monfils will have the level to win the event remains to be seen but the Frenchman has had strong showings at the French Open before.
A couple of weeks ago in Melbourne, he said:
"I need one time. I don't need, you know - I won't win 20 (Grand Slams), but one time, just one time I need. It's hard. It's been 20 years that I'm not doing the good thing, but who knows? This year it might click."
