"If I had to answer that question today, I would say that’s it": Del Potro failed to realise one dream due to Big Three

Juan Martin Del Potro had a really good career becoming a grand slam champion and winning multiple trophies but there is one dream he got denied by the big three.

Del Potro has been away from tennis for a while due to injuries that plagued him for much of his time on the court. He never really had a prolonged period of time where he didn't battle an injury and it's a shame because he could have done far more had he been more healthy. Even so, he managed to have a great career but he missed out on one of his dreams:

“If I had to answer that question today, I would say that’s it, but I was proud of my career and I never made it because there was either Federer, or Nadal or Djokovic. When I look at the rankings and the years of my career and who was fighting to be No 1 I see that it was beautiful to see that these were the ones who didn’t let me achieve this dream.”

Del Potro never got to be number one which is something he always wanted but he played in an era which he doesn't think will happen again. He thinks the sport has a bright future but something like the big three probably won't happen again:

“One day the Big Three will end and we have Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner or Holger Rune, other young people who will dominate the Tour, but for me many years – the Big Three – there won’t be anything similar."
