Matteo Berrettini exorcised the speed demon Alex de Minaur in the semifinal of the cinch Championships in Queen's Club and after the win, he spoke with the press.
Matteo Berrettini played a great match against Alex de Minaur in the Queen's Club semifinal defeating him 6-4 6-4. The match was similar to all Berrettini's matches this week as he controlled it with his massive first serve and powerful first shot. The Italian admitted the final was a goal for him upon arrival in London.
“That was the goal of the week [making the final], and now I have one more step. It is a great achievement, especially for the history of this tournament. I am really happy because to beat Alex today, I had to play my best tennis."
And he did play some of his best tennis all week. Taking control of the points with his massive serve he was able to receive shorter ball often which were then smashed by his powerful forehand. It worked and he is in the final where he will play
Cameron Norrie. On that he said:
"The mentality is that I always think I can win my service games. I know that I have a big weapon with my serve and first shot. If I sleep too well it means something is off ahead of the final. I have to be nervous and tight a little bit, otherwise, the adrenaline does not kick in and it is tougher to play."
Berrettini will be considered the favourite tomorrow against Norrie as well. Matteo has the stronger serve and forehand but Norrie possesses more variety in his game.
