"I'm aiming for a medal" says Diego Schwartzman ahead of the Olympics

Diego Schwartzman has high expectations of the Olympic Games as the Argentinian believes a deplete field will benefit him.

Diego Schwartzman is not having a great 2021 as the Argentinian struggled with his form for the better part of the year. Once the season shifted to clay he was able to pick up some form which somewhat translated to grass. Speaking about that he said:

“Two months ago I went into a downturn. It was difficult for me to compete at the highest level. I looked at the horizon with doubt. Luckily at Roland Garros and at Wimbledon I improved my level and my energy. That gives me a lot of confidence for Tokyo, a place where I played very well in the ATP 500.”

Schwartzman will be making his Olympic Games debut in Tokyo and the Argentinian has high expectations and he believes a depleted draw and a bit of lucky could propel him deep into the event. He said:

“Now I have to adapt to a new competition and feeling when entering a different field, similar to the Davis Cup. With all the absences there are, if I get lucky in the draw and it favours me in the early rounds, I can go from lowest to highest and go for a medal.”
