Dominic Thiem withdrew from the Cordoba Open after suffering a minor hand injury during preparation for the event.
The Austrian has been out of action since the summer of last year due to a wrist injury that he reinjured after picking up the racquet too soon. That setback came when Theim was pushing to return ahead of the US Open where he was the defending champion. The setback prompted him to take a slow route the 2nd time around and he was set to return in Cordoba.
However, a minor injury in the wrist forced him to abandon his plans to play in Cordoba because he wants to return when he is 100 % ready. He posted an update on Instagram saying:
"I suffered a minor injury between my knuckles, a little strain of my ligament. The positive thing is the wrist is perfectly fine, but I'm suffering pain in my hand and also lacking practice. I'm going to come back once I'm 100 percent fit."
Thiem arrived in Cordoba and was prepared to play but the injury occured in practice. Speaking further he added that he is very close to returning however it will be a few more weeks:
"I'm now 90-95 percent of the way. It's going to be a few more weeks before I'm really competitive."
