Spain’s legendary tennis star
Rafael Nadal has revealed that
he is ‘not sure’ about playing the
US Open 2024. The 37-year-old is often
regarded as one the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open
era, having won as many as 22 Grand Slam titles.
Nadal has struggled with fitness problems over the last few
years. His problems intensified last year, when he stayed out of action for nearly 12 months. Because of this, Nadal announced in 2023 that the
2024 season would be his last at the highest level.
The 14-time French Open winner, who is currently playing in
the Bastad Open, where he has already booked his place in the quarterfinal after
beating Britain’s Cameron Norrie in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4, was
recently quoted in a report where he stated that he is ‘not sure’ about playing
in the US Open. Nadal stated that he will take a decision after the Olympics and
also revealed that he will definitely participate in the Laver Cup.
“I needed to book to have the chance to decide after that,
that’s as simple as that. Nothing changed for me,” he said. “I’m going to
decide what’s going on after Olympics. By the way, I will be playing in the
Laver Cup but I am, to be clear, and to not create false expectations, I am not
sure at all to be in New York or not. No decision today and the decision will
not happen before the end of Olympics.”
Nadal returned to the court earlier at the start of this
season during the Brisbane International, but he once again suffered an injury that kept him out of action for two months. He finally returned to the court before the start of the Barcelona Open but has not consistently produced positive results.
