Carlos Alcaraz has reached the
Roland Garros final after
Lorenzo Musetti retired mid-match in their semifinal duel. The world No. 2 is now in his 5th Grand Slam final – having won in every one of his appearances so far.
The 4-time Grand Slam champion is poised to defend his title against the winner of the match between
Novak Djokovic and
Jannik Sinner, who will play in the night session. The 21-year-old Spaniard warned that he will be attentive to their match and will enjoy watching the duel between two of his great rivals.
It was an unfortunate end to the Alcaraz-Musetti match, as the Italian retired, sending Alcaraz to the final with a score of 4-6, 7-6, 6-0, 2-0, ret. Arguably the two best players on the clay-court swing, they delivered a couple of sets of extremely high-level tennis. Both led this clay-court swing in terms of wins: Alcaraz with a 21-1 record so far, while Musetti had an 18-4 record, with three of his losses coming against 'Carlitos'.
After advancing to the final, Alcaraz knew that the night session's clash between world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and the 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic was still to come. He stated that he would be paying close attention and taking notes on each player's strategy. "Of course I'm going to watch it, I won't miss it. It's one of the best tennis matches right now. I'm going to watch it and enjoy it."
"I'm also going to take notes on the match tactics (smiles). I'm a big tennis fan... it's going to be a great match."
The world No. 2 is looking to defend the title he won in 2024, where, regardless of the opponent, he will probably be the favorite, considering his great performance this year on clay courts and his status as defending champion.
In the match between Djokovic and Sinner, the head-to-head is 4-4, with Sinner taking the win in their last three encounters. While Sinner hasn't conceded a set in the tournament so far, Nole only dropped one set in the quarterfinals, overcoming world No. 3 Alexander Zverev in four sets.
