In an interview with Sky Sports, ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi revealed he is not afraid of the future of tennis after Federer and Nadal.
Andrea Gaudenzi, the Chairman of the ATP gave an interview to Sky Sports where he discussed a few topics related to the state of affairs in tennis. One question specifically asked him what he thought the future of tennis might hold with Nadal, Federer and Djokovic presumably playing the last years of their careers. Gaudenzi said, he's not worried:
"The strength of the product is linked to the mental and tactical
aspects of tennis; due to the uncertain duration of the matches.
The beauty of the event and the personalities of the players certainly
help. I am not afraid of the generational change. Obviously, we owe a
lot to Roger, Novak and Rafa for what they have done over the past
twenty years. But I'm sure other characters will be born that will
entertain the public."
He further said:
We were also afraid after Borg-McEnroe or Sampras-Agassi. Then look who has arrived. We don't know what the future holds. The weakness could be related to governance or media management. There is nobody that controls the product completely."
Tennis fans around the world are skeptial of this optimism but only time will tell.
