Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic has stated
that he is ‘not scared’ of facing Italian players ahead of the round of 16
clash at the
Monte-Carlo Masters against
Lorenzo Musetti.
The 36-year-old — who is often regarded as the greatest player
in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category, having won as many as
24 Grand Slam titles — booked his place in the third round of the ongoing ATP
1000 event after beating Roman Safiullin in straight sets with a score of 6-1,
6-2.
After the match, Djokovic was asked by a reporter whether he
is comfortable facing another Italian player after recently struggling against
Jannik Sinner. In response to that, the current world number stated that he is
feeling more ready than last year and that is hoping to deliver his best performance
throughout the competition.
“I am not scared of anything, in anybody,” he said. “But I
really hope that I can get the chance to play him again and get the matchup,
another matchup here. He obviously is, you know, one of the most talented
players on clay. Beautiful one-handed backhand, he is very athletic. He can do
a lot of great things and he is one of the most promising young players, not
only from Italy but generally for the world.
Novak Djokovic remains optimistic ahead of third-round clash
“So yea, let’s see how that works. I mean, Artur Fils is also
tough, tough opponent to beat so he’s got to win that match but I like the way
I played my first match comparing to the first match last year. I feel much
different, more ready so whoever is across the net, I am hoping I can deliver
my best game.
Musetti booked his place in the round of 16 after getting
the better of France’s Arthur Fils in the second round in straight sets with a
score of 6-3, 7-5. In the first round, he defeated America’s Taylor Fritz in
straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
