Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz has revealed that
he tries to play new shots in order to entertain the crowd.
The 20-year-old is now the talk of the town after winning
the Wimbledon 2023 following his victory over Serbia’s legendary tennis
star Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1,
3–6, 6–4.
Alcaraz is on an impressive run during the ongoing
US Open
2023 where he has already cemented his place in the semifinal after defeating
Germany’s Alexander Zverev in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
Despite his heroics on the court, the current world number
one is also famous for being a bit of a showman, something which is being admired
by spectators sitting in the arena.
Talking about it, Alcaraz stated that his objective of
trying new shots is to entertain the fans who came to the arena to watch him
play.
“That’s what I’m trying to do. I’m playing for myself &
my team,” he said. “But I’m trying to make people enjoy watch tennis &
watching the matches.
"Trying to do different shots that probably the crowd
aren’t used to seeing. I always say to put a smile because I think the people
enjoy as well. That’s why I am trying to put on the board.”
Alcaraz will now face the world number three Russia’s Daniil
Medvedev in the semifinal of the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year on
Friday.
The Russian tennis star booked his place in the last four after
defeating fellow countryman Andrey Rublev in the last-four clash in straight
sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday.
