Polish star Iga Swiatek finally dropped the World No.1 ranking after 75 weeks, but tennis fans were left wondering at the three-time Grand Slam champion's lack of well-wishes to new No.1, Aryna Sabalenka.
Swiatek lost to Jelena Ostapenko in the fourth round of the 2023 US Open, therefore ensuring the 22-year old would be unable to defend her title and lose ranking points. Conversely, Sabalenka won her fourth round match, which allowed the Belarusian to overtake Swiatek in the live rankings and assume the new top position when the new rankings are released next week.

Swiatek thanks fans for support, makes no mention of Sabalenka

"Some of my thoughts about…defending. Many thanks for all your support on my first journey as a no 1 in women’s tennis,” wrote Swiatek on Twitter.
This statement did not resonate well with fans, with some questioning why she did not extend well-wishes to Sabalenka for taking over as the new No.1.
“Congratulations to Sabalenka when?” wrote one fan.
"Of course she doesn’t congratulate Sabalenka as the new world number one, it seems someone is very pressed and a sore loser," wrote another fan.
"You couldn't even say congrats to Sabalenka for being the new #1 How much hate do you have for her ??!!!! I am glad that Sabalenka took the #1 from you ... Because she is the champion of the people, but you are not,” said another upset fan.
"She forgot to say 'Congrats to Aryna on becoming the new World Number One. Well deserved, Aryna'," said a disappointed fan.
