Novak Djokovic is through to R3 at the
Roland Garros but the Serbian is staying present in the moment underlining the importance of that.
Novak Djokovic defeated Pablo Cuevas in straight sets to advance to Roland Garros R3. It was a great match by Djokovic who fended off a very good Cuevas early on and it was a much better match from Novak overall. He was more focused, he moved much better compared to his first-round match.
Djokovic was a break down in the first set but rallied back to win it in impressive fashion saving three break points at 5-3. After the match he said:
“Pablo [Cuevas] is a clay specialist. He has lots of power, lots of spin. But, I stayed focused. The third set was really difficult for me, because [Cuevas] raised his game. I concentrated and found my serve to be very important. I’m very happy.”
Djokovic is not thinking ahead emphasising the need to stay in the present moment. He is in the 3rd round and still has several matches to win to reach his goal. He said:
“It’s a cliche to say day-by-day but ultimately it’s really important to stay in the present moment. Now, I’m just thinking about my next opponent. But it’s good that I’m healthy and I’m playing with a lot of confidence."
Djokovic ultimately said his preparation was good and he believes he can go all the way:
“I thought my preparation for Roland Garros was very good. I hope to go far in the tournament.”
